Summer E-Cards
Don't forget to send First Day of Summer E-cards by 6/21/2008. The History of the First Day of SummerThe first day of summer is marked by the Summer Solstice, which falls on June 21 in 2006. The summer solstice is the point when the sun is the furthest north of the celestial equator. For the northern hemisphere, it is the day when daylight is its longest and the night is its shortest. Summer is traditionally a time of relaxation and vacation for Americans due to the pleasant, warmer weather.American schoolchildren generally have longer summer vacations than children in other industrialized nations. Summer vacations normally last up to three months in the U.S., with some college students' vacations extending as long as four months. The summer is also the time when youth employment increases the most, whether it be from hiring interns during their break from school or recent graduates to a full time position.
