Memorial Day E-Cards
Don't forget to send Memorial Day E-cards by 5/26/2008. The History of Memorial DayMemorial Day services date back to the aftermath of the Civil War, when Union General John Logan wished to create a day of observance for the soldiers lost in the war. Decoration Day, as it was called, was changed to Memorial Day in all Northern states by 1890, but the South refused to celebrate it, instead relying on separate decoration days. After World War I, Memorial Day became a day to honor the dead in all American wars rather than just the Civil War, and the Southern states decided to embrace the holiday. Memorial Day became a national holiday in 1971. It is celebrated on the last Monday in May.
