The History of Mother's Day
Mother's Day was officially declared a national holiday in 1914 as the second Sunday in May, thanks in large part to the suggestions and influence of Julia Ward Howe and Anna M. Jarvis. It is a worldwide celebration of the woman who brought you into the world or who cared for you. Mothers have one of the toughest jobs in the world in raising, nurturing, and caring for their children to ensure that they are safe, healthy, and have a promising future. Their hard work often goes unappreciated, and Mother's Day is the perfect time to show them that you truly care.
Many countries around the world celebrate Mother's Day in one form or another – and some even celebrate it on the same day as the United States.
Traditional
gifts for Mother's Day include greeting cards, candy, jewelry, and flowers.
Some of the more unique recent gift trends include e-cards, flowered trees
and plants, special food, and gift baskets.
