    The History of Nurses Day

    Nurses Day is an event celebrated around the world to honor the hard work and care that nurses give to their patients. Nurses Day is an opportunity to increase awareness of the work of nurses, promote their job to the public, and help the general public appreciate their determination.


    Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12 every year around the world because Florence Nightingale was born on this date. Nurses Day commemorates the accomplishments of both Nightingale and Mary Seacole, who both were pioneers in the nursing field.

    There are over 2.4 million registered nurses in the United States (information taken from the U.S. Censor Bureau).
