Sarah Miller president Set Now Solutions Is There Privacy in an Online World?

Even if the government doesn't find out what they want to from Google (see previous entry), who else is seeing what you are doing online? You may never know but you can protect yourself...

Web sites use cookies to maintain site visitor information to tailor information to the person or to verfiy that they are signed in and are authorized to view the information they are asking to see. These are good cookies because they enable people to use web sites. But alas...there are bad cookies which store data that is more specific than you might like. One way to counteract that is to do what Wired News (Wired.com) recommends and that is to once a week delete your cookies or set your browser to delete cookies when you close the browser (read more from their article on how to protect yourself http://www.wired.com/news/technology/1,70051-0.html).

Unfortunately doing this may result in your inability to save preferences for a particular web site and may you have to log in every time you revisit a site rather than using the 'remember me' feature that many subscription sites offer.

The best solution is to read the privacy policy of sites you visit and periodically remove only those cookies that you want to remove and leave the ones you trust.
