4/12/2006 by Steven Osborne. Are we addicted to email? A survey performed by America Online found that checking email is so important and addicting that people have admitted to opening their email while in the process of driving, in the bathroom, and in Church. 77% of users have more than one email account (with an average of 2.8 accounts per person). The survey also concluded that people rely on email as much, and if not more than the telephone. Several years ago (and even still today) many people thought that the effectiveness of email would significantly decline due to spamming and the time it took to sift through tens or even hundreds of email messages every day. It seems like email is only becoming a more prominent communication tool. With the possible influence of priority email and enforcement of the CAN-SPAM Act, email may soon become (if it hasn't already) the number 1 business and personal communication tool.
