5/24/2006 by Lou Rofrano. Web Pages for Formats Other Than Web Browsers Now that other devices can connect to the internet, such as PDA's, phones, etc, web sites need to be designed for devices other than your basic web browser. As if designing for all of the different browser quirks out there wasn't enough, designers now need to think about how their site looks on very small monitors with little support for fancy HTML. Luckily, this is where CSS comes to the rescue. With CSS, you can specify what stylesheet to use based on what a person is using to access your content. For example, you can have one stylesheet file handle your browser users, while another handles your projection needs and yet another handles all handheld devices. Now, you can customize your site to each particular viewer. If the user comes in from a handheld device, you do not need to show them intricate backgrounds or colors, when only a plain interface will probably be the best for them. CSS is greatly expanding the ways that web site designers can make their site accessible to all viewers, not just limiting them to the ones that are using a web browser.
