This spring inspired Anniversary eCard is a photo of a flower that is in the shape of a heart.
One of my favorite perennial plants is the bleeding-heart plant. It's one of the first plants in my yard to bloom each late winter/early spring, and it's been amazingly adaptable to my clay soil. Kids always are awed by the almost-artificial-looking dangling flowers, and there are so many blooms on each plant that I don't mind them being picked apart by tiny hands.
Bleeding-hearts have one of the coolest latin names I've ever heard - go ahead and say it out loud - "Lamprocapnos spectabilis!" (It sounds like a Hogwarts spell for making a room totally dark.) Bleeding-hearts are also known by other common names, including Venus's car, Lady in a bath, Dutchman's trousers, or Lyre-flower. (If you are going to call me names, I'd rather you called me a Bleeding Heart than a Lyre!)
