Tips for Getting Organized

Clean your workspace: It may not come as a surprise but if you work in a cluttered environment, you may feel overwhelmed. Just looking around your office may make you feel like you will never get through it all! Our advice? Take it in steps. Schedule a daily reminder to spend 15 to 30 minutes per day to file, clean and reorganize. Do this for one week and then re-assess the situation.

File Your Emails: Everyone receives a lot of email but how are you managing them? Many email programs allow you to create folders so you can file an email like you would a piece of paper. Only file emails that don't require an action or you have already responded to and completed the task. This will leave you with only 'active items' in your inbox and you will immediately know what you need to respond to.

Make a Daily To-Do List: Many people have an overwhelming to-do list that can make someone panic just at the mere sight of it. At the end of the day, take 5 minutes to write down the top 5 things you need to do the next day on a sticky note and either stick it to your monitor or briefcase. Write those goals in order or importance so you get the most important tasks completed first. Stay focused and stick to your list. Cross items off as you complete them. This may make you feel lighter and more positive about tackling your next task. If a task is too big, break it into smaller tasks so you feel like you have accomplished something. If you finish all 5 things, write down your next 5 tasks and stick to them.

These are just a few suggestions and we're sure you can come up with more! Feel free to share them on CorpNote's Facebook page.

Master Your Keyboard Shortcuts

The most common everyday computer tasks regularly require the following commands: Select, Copy, Cut, Paste and Undo. Most people know the 'right-click' method of performing these tasks, but there is a much quicker way! Yes, the answer is keyboard shortcuts. Here is a quick list. Give it a try and see if it saves you some time.

Action Keyboard Combination Notes
Select All Ctrl + A
Copy Ctrl + C Something needs to be selected before you copy.
Cut Ctrl + X
Paste Ctrl + V First place your cursor where you want to paste.
Undo Ctrl + Z Based on the software, undo will either toggle between undo or redo or it will give you multiple steps of undo.
Redo Ctrl + Y Only works when there are multiple levels of undo.

All of the above keyboard shortcuts work when composing a CorpNote eCard.

Don't Let Email Rule Your Life

One of the biggest office distraction is email. Many people leave their email notifications on and no matter what they are doing, they will get a pop up that an email is waiting for them. If you are doing a task that requires your undivided attention, turn off email notices so you will not be interrupted. If you need a break from your task, stop after an allotted period of time to check and respond to email and then go back to your task.

Thank You eCards

Keeping a resolution can be tough. There are so many distractions! So, what if you didn't stick to your goal or you went over your time limit? Don't give up. Start over again! There's no reason you can't make a new New Year's resolution any time of year.

Here are some tips to help you stay on task.

  1. Stay Focused. Have either one main goal or a maximum of 3 smaller attainable goals.

  2. Think of the Time. Short-term goals are easier to keep and may help keep you motivated when you know there is an end in sight.

  3. Keep it Realistic. If your goal is a complex one that relies on many components or a longer time frame, break it into smaller attainable goals. You will feel lighter each time you reach a milestone to attaining the final goal.

  4. Commit it to Paper. Write down your goal and why you want to achieve it. The more supporting details the better. This will help you be more committed to sticking to the goal. Each time your focus wanes, you can read the reasons why you want to achieve that goal and you might be newly inspired.

  5. Reward Yourself. You deserve a reward for attaining your goal. Write it down. Look at it each time you feel you're struggling in attaining your goal.
