Time Seems to be Moving Quickly     view archive

The motion of the pendulum was studied and its principles documented in the early 1600's by Galileo. Up until the 1930's, pendulums were used for clocks, and were considered the world's most accurate form of timekeeping.

Today's pic is of the Foucault pendulum in the Franklin Institute, in Philadelphia, PA. The pendulum's wire is 85 feet long, and the weight of the bob is 180 pounds.
